Kevin Steinman + Supp: Oðeon

Born in Tokyo, raised in southern California and Germany, fluent in Norwegian.

Kevin Steinman attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he graduated cum laude in three years with a degree in English Literature. Growing up, his dad directed musical theater, so his parents put him in plays instead of getting a babysitter. At the age of 4, he performed in front of 1,400 people, and when the crowd went “Aww!” he was hooked. Kevin has sung for a living since graduating college, when he joined Four Shadow, the professional a cappella group he led from 2002 until 2008. Highlights of his a cappella career include a feature on NBC’s Today Show, a private concert at the home of Christopher and Dana Reeve, and a headlining spot at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, along with Doc Watson, Loudon Wainright III, Chris Smither, and others. Since 2007, Kevin has traveled the world playing his original pop/folk music on stages from Los Angeles to Oslo, with increasing popularity both in Minnesota and abroad. He was a semi-finalist in 2005’s USA Songwriting Competition, and has shared the stage with Rascall Flatts, Lonestar, Josh Kelley, Minnesota lo-fi rockers Low, and Gary Louris of the Jayhawks. Kevin released his first solo album, Things to Keep in Mind While Balancing, in 2007, at a successful show at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Songs from that EP were played on 100 college radio stations across the country, charting as high as #3 in several markets. In the last few years, Kevin has performed in 45 US states, 7 countries, and has driven around the world 10 times. His music has been licensed by MTV and Lifetime channels, and was most recently featured in a film distributed in Australia. Kevin’s brand new record, Pre-Existing Condition, is set to be released in April, 2011, and is produced by Andy Thompson (Jeremy Messersmith). It features Minneapolis luminaries Chris Koza, Ben Kyle, Linnea Mohn, Alicia Wiley, Luke Anderson, Brianna Lane, among others.
